Great location and a really nice old building with grand stairs and an old world feeling about it. Expected Jack Nicholson to be running about with an axe.
The carpets have been changed or dyed black in some cases. It now classes itself as a guest house and not a hotel. No AC so got warm at night. Mattress didn't fit bed so was at an angle, very odd.

The waitress at 9:30 PM didn't mind our late arrival and need for food. The hotel is within about ten or fifteen minutes' walk from the ferry boat dock (from Porec or Zadar, for instance) and ten minutes' walk from the intercity bus terminal. But so is another nearby hotel. Look at a map of hotels in Pula. The daytime desk clerk courteously (and desperately) explained the many problems that this establishment faces and that guests therefore face, too.
It was a splendid palatial hotel l00 years ago but it's decrepit in parts (I took photos) with peeling paint, an elevator that comes so slowly that most people walk up and down stairs, a sad air, dreary tan and brown decor, pigeon droppings on windowsills, and mosquitos galore. It has been officially downgraded from Hotel status to Guest House status and should be further downgraded. The desk clerk explained that the city is rebuilding sewers and water conduits outside the hotel and yet there are no screens or air-conditioners to keep mosqutos out. We had to buy a chemical aerator the second night to get any sleep; we had hardly any the first night. If you stay here, come prepared with the aerator, brand names Raid or Vape and follow instructions with care. We were awake most of the first night killing at least 50 mosquitos. The chambermaid did clean the blood off the walls by the next day. The stench from sewer works starting at 6 AM is not the management's fault but no guest needs to tolerate that. Another hotel close by is far more appealing, and for cheap rooms, you can't do worse than this if you ask the tourist office for private room recommendations. In short, we hated our experience at what is now officially called the Guest House "Hotel Riviera,"----no longer Hotel Riviera.

The Riviera is a classic hotel, with huge rooms, huge corridors, friendly and helpful staff. We stayed there cause we wanted to be close to the port where we were booked to take the boat to venice. It was less than 50 metres away, and also, a short walk from the train and bus stations.
In my opinion the only problem was that our room didnt include air conditioner, so we had to leave the window opened overnight and that invited the mosquitos to get in. Its a great hotel, dont get me wrong, we would have enjoyed it more if we had mosquito repellents.

Great value for the money, the room was spacious and cleaned daily. The location was excellent, with an amazing view from the balcony. The staff were friendly and helpful.
The breakfast option could have been improved with more variety.
